Ahimsa Animal Sanctuary is a 501(C)3 nonprofit sanctuary nestled in the mountains of Tijeras, NM. We sit on 10 acres of forested land. We provide lifetime sanctuary for our residents.
WHAT WE do
RESCUE
Our main focus is rescuing animals who have a history of neglect and abuse or being commodified, or were otherwise abandoned. We have taken in animals with many different backgrounds, while focusing mainly on those who are known as "farmed" animals.
REHABILITATION
Since many of the animals we have taken in were neglected or being commodified, they aren't always in the best of health. Through vetting, exercise, diet changes and a stress free environment we have helped many of them by changing their sure fate. It's an unfortunate reality that there have been those who were past the point of return, and in those cases, we gave them love and as much comfort as possible until the end. Those we have lost will forever be part of our family and live on through our work to help as many others as possible.
educate
It's our goal to educate the community around us on the importance of valuing each individuals life and why these animals should be looked at just the same as your "companion" cats and/or dogs. Our family of animals here in sanctuary have taught us how much love and understanding these once abused and neglected animals have for us as humans when given the chance. Just by changing our understanding of what's looked at as "normal" around us when it comes to these animals, we can easily feel their desire for love and for peace.
